2013 Presidential Initiative Summit: Save the Date!

NAAG President and Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler selected “Privacy in the Digital Age” for his 2012-2013 Presidential Initiative, and plans for the Presidential Initiative Summit, April 14 – 16, 2013, are underway.

“With this initiative, we will bring the energy and legal weight of this organization to investigate, educate and take necessary steps to ensure that the Internet’s major players protect the privacy of online consumers while balancing their legitimate business interests,” said Attorney General Gansler.

The Internet’s impact on our lives cannot be overestimated, and its impact on the U.S. economy is no less significant. The Internet accounted for 4.7 percent of all U.S. economic activity in 2010, contributing more to the American economy than the entire federal government. Behind this extraordinary progress is a set of emerging technologies and business models that are challenging our ability to control how and with whom our private information is shared, and changing our very understanding of privacy. These developments in technology and enterprise have created new privacy risks for individuals and corporations alike. This initiative will explore the best ways to manage those risks – from geo-location tracking to cyber bullying, from data collection to data breaches.

Save the date and plan to attend the Presidential Initiative Summit, April 14 – 16, 2013, Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland. More meeting details and online registration will be available in early 2013.
