As Attorneys General, their management teams, and their office staffs confront conditions of declining resources and increased legal and programmatic demands, focused, competent, and committed executive leadership has never been more important. Attorneys General, Chief Deputies/First Assistants, and Division Chiefs must all make judgments that will immediately and critically affect the quality and availability of client services, staff motivation and morale, and the future capacities of the Office to fulfill its mission.

Building upon suggestions provided by executive staff from numerous offices, NAGTRI has designed an advanced management seminar for attorneys general, chief deputies/first assistants, and division chiefs, i.e., members of office management teams. The seminar is a highly interactive program designed specifically to focus on the challenging and frequently uncertain and ambiguous roles of executive leaders in offices of attorneys general.

As a result of the two-day seminar, taught by George Washington University Professor Steve Chitwood, participants will acquire leadership knowledge and skills for more effectively and precisely: setting the Attorney General’s strategic direction and agenda for the Office, including strategic directions for divisions and lower level units; developing and sustaining productive executive management teams capable of making sound judgments and decisions; enhancing the practicality and actionability of Office plans, plan execution and operational effectiveness; and anticipating and responding to potential and actual management crises.
