Attorneys General Praise Passage Of Pact Act

Press Statement by Jon Bruning, NAAG President and Nebraska Attorney General

“The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) is pleased that Congress has passed legislation to prohibit illegal online and mail-order tobacco sales. The PACT Act [Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act] will curb the delivery of cigarettes reaching underage youth, and will bring much needed state revenue by collecting state and local taxes on Internet sales of tobacco products.”

“The Attorneys General have supported this legislation for seven long years. It is a vital legal tool to keep tobacco products out of the hands of our teenagers. We thank the members of Congress for their work and look forward to enforcing this new law when, as expected, President Obama signs the bill.”
