Attorneys General Meet with Federal Officials to Discuss State-Federal Cooperation

Washington, DC—Fifty-one state and territorial Attorneys General are convening today in Washington, D.C. for the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) Spring Meeting, March 7-9 at the Fairmont Hotel. The theme is “State-Federal Cooperation in a Challenging Economy.”

“Rebuilding our economy will take states, the federal government, consumers and businesses all working together,” said NAAG President and North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper. “This gathering allows Attorneys General to meet with each other and federal officials to find solutions for a range of common issues, including how to better protect consumers and deal with foreclosures.”

Other session topics include intellectual property, immigration law, Medicaid and prescription drug abuse, campaign disclosure law, and an overview of this term’s U.S. Supreme Court cases. U.S. Consumer Product Safety Chairman Inez Tenenbaum and U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas are two of the guest speakers. A copy of the agenda can be viewed at www.naag.org.

This week also marks the 13th annual National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW), March 6 - 12. NAAG is one of the participating organizations for NCPW. As the chief legal officers for their jurisdictions, Attorneys General remain at the forefront of consumer protection issues. Attorneys General will participate in community events and distribute information and guidance to consumers about protecting their identity, staying safe online and managing their money.
