State Attorneys General to Convene for Summer Meeting
The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) will hold its annual Summer Meeting in Portland, Ore. NAAG’s president is Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.
State and territory attorneys general will convene with key staff, other government officials and corporate, association and academic representatives to discuss legal issues addressing emerging tech crimes, protecting consumer data, marijuana legalization, elder justice and robocalls. There will also be an update on this term’s U.S. Supreme Court cases.
Oregon Attorney General Ellen F. Rosenblum is the meeting host, with Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas A. Balmer offering remarks. Assistant Secretary for Aging Lance Robertson with the US. Department of Health and Human Services will be a keynote speaker. Assistant Attorney General Beth A. Williams in the U.S. Department of Justice will discuss preventing prison inmates from using contraband cellphones. A panel on the use and protection of consumer data includes Erin Egan, vice president and chief privacy officer of Facebook.
NAAG will elect its new slate of officers for 2018-2019 and will host its annual awards ceremony to recognize the work of those who contribute to the Office of the Attorney General and the Association. This includes NAAG’s most prestigious honor, the Kelley-Wyman Award, bestowed each year upon an attorney general who has done the most to achieve the Association’s objectives.
Tuesday, June 19 through Thursday, June 21 until 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
First session begins at Noon Pacific Time on Tuesday.
