Abigail Stempson is the director of the newly established NAGTRI Center for Consumer Protection. The Center is the nation’s only entity solely dedicated to provide training, research, expertise, and other resources to the staff of attorneys general offices and other government attorneys and staff committed to protecting the public against consumer fraud and abuse.
Abigail is a native of Tecumseh, Neb. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 2001 and a Juris Doctorate with an emphasis in business from the University Of Nebraska College Of Law in 2004. She is a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association. Abigail began her practice as an attorney at Vincent Law Office in Lincoln, Neb., where she focused on securities and taxation. Abigail has also spent part of her career in the Nebraska Department of Revenue. Most recently, Abigail was the chief of the Consumer Protection Bureau (Division) in the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office and was formerly an assistant attorney general, where she focused on consumer fraud and deceptive trade practices, nonprofit organizations, charitable trusts, tobacco enforcement, and antitrust matters. She led the state’s White Collar Fraud Task Force, was a member of the Suspicious Activity Report state review team, and was a board member of the National Association of State Charities Officials. Abigail also served as an instructor for the National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute. She was selected as Manager of the Year for the Attorney General's Office in 2013. In addition, Abigail has been an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln College of Business since 2004, has taught at higher learning institutions since 2002, and has been nominated for multiple teaching awards.
