Dan Edwards

Dan Edwards is a Senior Assistant Attorney General on the Violent Crimes Assistance Team in Colorado. He assists local prosecutors in their homicide cases. Most recently he was a Special Deputy District Attorney on the Aurora Theater massacre case. He received the Colorado Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Performance in 2010 and 2013. He was named Faculty of the Year in 2013 by the Colorado District Attorneys Counsel (CDAC). Early in his career as a criminal defense attorney he was named Colorado State Public Defender of the Year and nominated for Outstanding Criminal Defense Attorney in Colorado. After being a defense attorney, he was a Magistrate Judge in Denver before becoming a prosecutor. As a trial attorney he has tried over 300 cases including 59 first degree murder cases. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Denver College of Law where he has taught almost 200 courses over the last 30 years primarily in the areas of Evidence, Trial Practice, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure. He has recently authored law review articles such as “The Man Behind the Curtain: Confronting Expert Testimony,” “Changing Expectation of Privacy in the Digital Age,” and “The Reality of Evolving Standards and the Death Penalty.” He is a co-author of the CDAC “Trial Evidence Manual.”
