Consumer Protection 101
This course is for assistant attorneys general who are new to the enforcement of consumer protection laws. It will provide basic information about consumer protection investigations and lawsuits. Participants will learn about state consumer protection laws and important case law; current scams affecting consumers; how to work with investigators and consumer complaint specialists; discovery tips and resources/social media investigations; civil investigative demands and subpoenas; consumers as witnesses; anatomy of a consumer settlement; federal jurisdiction over consumer issues and working with federal partners; and multistate investigations and multistate working groups.
