This course will examine the role of the Attorneys General and other state actors in addressing the problem of overprescribing of opioids in the United States. Presentations and discussions will focus on the various ways that states might be involved in enforcement of state and federal regulations and laws and will include topics such as the role of state professional licensing boards, criminal investigations and prosecutions, including Medicaid fraud, and Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs. Case studies by experienced practitioners will allow participants to discuss and share among themselves how various efforts and strategies might work in their home jurisdictions. Additional sessions will look and regulatory and legislative policies and prevention initiatives and discuss the ethics involved with parallel proceedings when offices are involved in both criminal and civil enforcement proceedings. This East Coast course will be offered in West Palm Beach, Florida.
A similar course to be held on the West Coast and will be announced at a later date.
