Smile…it increases your face value. Smiling is a great way to build a connection among people. This is the belief of Janet Fernandes, the newest addition to the NAAG staff
As the senior accountant, Janet supervises the accounting operations, prepares yearly audit schedules, coordinates month-end accounting entries, analyzes meetings grants and expenditures, works with NAAG counsel on the financials for meetings/events/training, and assists the director of finance with budgets and investment reconciliations.
Janet has extensive auditing and finance experience. Prior to joining NAAG, she worked as the controller, accounts and finance, for a leading travel management company for the past 12 years. Before coming to the United States, Janet worked in the United Kingdom for Thomas Cook, a foreign currency agency for six years.
It is definitely not all about facts and figures with Janet. She considers herself a well-rounded individual that brings balance to her position every day.
“I use a creative approach to present financials which makes it interesting,” said Janet.
Throughout her career, she has been the recipient of awards such as the customer service award and employee of the month and year awards. She believes everyone is a customer and must be treated with courtesy and respect. She is also a notary public in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Janet is originally from India (descendent of Portuguese) and has lived in different countries like Australia and Singapore. She has travelled extensively and is multilingual.
In her spare time, she enjoys baking and is a professional cake decorator. Though she only arrived at NAAG in mid-July, her delicious treats have quickly become popular in the office.
