Human Trafficking Newsletter

As the second largest criminal enterprise in the world, human trafficking, in all its forms, has been the focus of both international and national attention. Conventional wisdom is that most of the prosecutions occur on the federal level. However, State Human Trafficking News, a monthly publication of the National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute (NAGTRI), a branch of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), illustrates the very large and increasingly active part that local and state investigators and prosecutors play in countering this crime that some call modern day slavery but is truly the civil rights issue of the 21st century. The newsletter is not only a compendium of news reports concerning state investigations and prosecutions, but also includes proposed and passed federal and state legislative action and federal and state court decisions. The editor is NAGTRI Deputy Director Judy McKee, jmckee@naag.org.
