Phone Data Privacy Bill Gets a Final Push
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. lawmakers on Monday mounted a final effort to pass legislation this year to ban the use of deceptive methods to obtain consumers telephone records. Democrats and Republicans sought a deal that would clear the way for the Senate to approve the measure before the Republican-led 109th Congress draws to a close, likely at the end of this week, Senate leadership aides said.Full Article
Drought Relief Nowhere in Site for Farms
ARLINGTON, Texas -- After a devastating year losing crops and cattle to drought or wildfires, farmers and ranchers probably won't see federal relief anytime soon….BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ North Dakota farmers may start applying for state licenses to grow industrial hemp next year but no seed may be sown until federal drug agents approve, Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson says….Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said last month that the rules crafted by North Dakota's Agriculture Department comply with state law. A state legislative committee approved the rules on Monday, with no changes, Johnson said. Full Article
Immigrant Wins in Drug Deportation Case
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday made it easier for some immigrants convicted of drug possession under state law to remain in the United States rather than being subject to deportation. In an 8-1 decision, the justices ruled in favor of an immigrant who pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting possession of drugs in South Dakota for telling someone where to obtain cocaine Full Article
