Sources: HP to settle civil complaint

The California attorney general's office is expected to announce Thursday that it has settled civil complaints with Hewlett-Packard over the company's spying tactics, CNET News.com has learned. The civil complaints are separate from the criminal charges already brought forward by the attorney general's office. Five people, including former HP Chairman Patricia Dunn, are facing felony charges in connection with HP's campaign to determine the source of unauthorized media leaks. Gasoline prices likely to go higher

WASHINGTON — The recent rise in gasoline prices will likely continue until Christmas, making the trip home for the holidays more costly than at Thanksgiving. The nationwide average retail price of a gallon of regular gasoline has risen 8 cents since the end of October. On Monday, the average price was $2.297 a gallon, the highest in two months and 15 cents higher than a year ago, according to weekly Energy Department data Full Article

McDonnell Supports Direct Access to Services

Parents seeking treatment for their mentally ill children should not have to place their kids in foster care for them to receive group home placements and other needed services, Virginia Attorney General Robert F. McDonnell said in an advisory opinion yesterday. In the nine-page opinion, McDonnell (R) sought to clarify a controversial practice that has caused anguish for thousands of Virginia families.
