U.S. Ambassador Luis CdeBaca to Address NAAG Eastern Region Meeting at Columbia Law School on the Subject of Human Trafficking
Washington, DC---The Eastern Region of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) will host an Oct. 20-21 forum on human trafficking at the Columbia Law School in New York City featuring Ambassador Luis CdeBaca, director of the U.S. State Department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. Attorneys General from seven states are expected to attend, along with senior staff from other state attorneys general offices. New Hampshire Attorney General Michael Delaney and New Jersey Attorney General Paula Dow serve as chair and vice chair, respectively, of the Eastern Region.
Human trafficking is the focus of NAAG President and Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna’s 2011-2012 presidential initiative. The State Department estimates 800,000 people are trafficked across borders into forced labor and prostitution every year, while one million children are involved in the global sex trade. Other government figures indicate as many as 17,500 persons may be trafficked into the U.S. annually.
Prior to remarks by Ambassador CdeBaca, state and federal officials will analyze and discuss various strategies in addressing human trafficking.
