States to Commence First Tobacco Arbitration

Federal Hate Crimes Bill Signed into Law

President Obama signed into law Oct. 28 the federal hate crimes bill known as the “Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act” (P.L. #111-84). It went into effect upon signing as part of the “National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010.”

7th Circuit Launches E-Discovery Pilot Program

Phase One of the 7th Circuit’s Electronic Discovery Pilot Program launched on Oct. 1. It was developed as a result of continuing discussions regarding the need for cooperation and reform, particularly in view of the increasing costs and burden of electronic discovery.
