International Fellows Program Focused on Battling Public Corruption

Twenty-two government attorneys from 17 countries participated in the National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute’s (NAGTRI) annual International Fellows program, June 2-10. NAGTRI is the research and training arm of NAAG.

Peter Harvey accomplished several “firsts” during his career. He was the first African American to serve as the New Jersey Attorney General from 2003-2006. Before assuming office, he was the first assistant attorney general and director of the Division of Criminal Justice.

RJR v. FDA: A First Amendment Challenge to Graphic Image Warning Labels on Cigarettes

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia struck down on Feb. 29 a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation that required “graphic image” warning labels on cigarette packages. On Aug. 24, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals also ruled against the labels. These warnings, common in other countries, consist of graphic, full-color images that depict the dangers of smoking.

Finding the Balance in the Fight against Prescription Drug Abuse

By all accounts, the negative effects of prescription drug abuse on society are far reaching and growing. Consider the following: seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs. Between 2004 and 2010, emergency room visits involving prescription opioids increased 156 percent and admissions increased six times.
