Susanne R. Young was appointed Vermont Attorney General by Governor Philip B. Scott effective July 5, 2022. She previously served as the Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Administration under Governor Scott, Deputy Attorney General for Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell, Legal Counsel to Governor James H. Douglas, and Deputy Treasurer for State Treasurer James H. Douglas.
After graduation from Vermont Law School in 1981, she served in various positions as an Assistant Attorney General, including as staff attorney for the Vermont Department of Corrections, Director of the legal unit for the Department of Mental Health, Director of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, Special Litigator, Director of the Civil Litigation Unit in the Human Services Division, Director of the General Counsel and Administrative Law Unit, and Chief of the Criminal Justice Division. She graduated from Northfield High School and the University of Vermont. She earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Vermont Law School cum laude in 1981 and was Editor-in-Chief of the Vermont Law Review.
Susanne and her husband Peter reside in Northfield, Vermont.
