Civil Enforcement Division – Antitrust, False Claims & Privacy
The Civil Enforcement Division of the Oregon Department of Justice is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced attorney with a strong interest or background in privacy and cybersecurity to join our Antitrust, False Claims, & Privacy Section. The Civil Enforcement Division is the Oregon DOJ’s plaintiff’s civil litigation arm. The primary role for this attorney position will be to help enforce Oregon’s consumer data privacy law, ORS 646A.570-646A.589 (also known as the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act), and assist with all aspects of the Section’s privacy and data security work. The work often involves cutting edge issues of privacy law and policy across an array of traditional and emerging industries.
Working alone or in teams, this attorney will apply their skills and experience to identify, investigate and prosecute complex civil cases related to data privacy and security, and other priority areas for the Department. Duties will include issuing investigative demands, taking sworn witness interviews, management of large document reviews, and working with consulting experts and investigators to evaluate legal and strategic issues, in order to make recommendations to decisionmakers. When warranted, this attorney will seek consumer restitution, penalties, and injunctive relief through a negotiated settlement or, if necessary, through litigation in state or federal court. The attorney in this position may also participate in or lead joint investigations with other state attorneys general and federal consumer protection agencies to address trending issues occurring on a national scale. In addition, this attorney may be tasked with assisting on other Section matters as needed.
