About Securities Regulation in Legal Services Division
Under limited supervision, an employee in this position performs professional legal work for the State, its subdivisions, and officials. The employee is assigned to the Securities Regulation and Enforcement Section as an Assistant Attorney General.
- Represent the Securities Division in the investigative stages of securities cases.
- Following an investigation, make recommendations regarding the appropriate resolution of assigned cases.
- Prepare pleadings related to assigned cases.
- Successfully negotiated assigned cases.
- Represent the Securities Division in the trial or hearing and appellate phases of assigned cases.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Director or the Attorney General.
- Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility.
- Paid parental leave (effective October 1, 2022).

Responsibilities
Juris Doctorate Degree and experience as a practicing attorney.
Necessary Requirements: Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar. Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.
Additional Requirements:
- Position may require overnight travel.
- Position may require employees to work evenings and weekends.
- Position requires frequent driver duties.
- Position may be required to travel to court and transport files.
Qualifications
- Interest in developing expertise in emerging technologies like digital assets and artificial intelligence.
- Interest in working with other state and federal regulators on issues impacting financial markets.
- Ability to analyze and correctly interpret and apply statutes and regulations, including federal and state securities law and case law.
- Ability to analyze evidence of all types, to form an educated legal opinion, and to clearly express the same both orally and in writing, including charging documents, briefs, memoranda, and more.
- Knowledge or familiarity with the securities or financial industry is preferred.
