Job Title: Assistant Attorney General VI Position Type: Regular Full-Time

Salary: $89,727 – $144,573. The salary range is based on a multitude of factors including applicable personnel rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Telework: A hybrid remote telework and in-office schedule option is available per applicable policies and procedures.

DESCRIPTION: The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the legal business of the State, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown, leads the Office with a key focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

Responsibilities

The Office of Attorney General is seeking an attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General to the Maryland State Police. Primary responsibilities include litigation in federal and state courts, along with advice, counsel, and support to all bureaus of the Department on a variety of matters including police operations, constitutional law, employment law, forensic sciences, criminal discovery, procurement, administrative proceedings, and other matters. The litigation for the agency is primarily defending suits involving civil rights, intentional torts, employment cases, and motor vehicle torts.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of litigation experience including excellent research and writing skills, and experience litigating cases in state and federal court. The ability to handle all phases of litigation independently is preferred. Maryland Bar membership is required.
