Our Organization and Mission: The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Position Summary: This position is in the Office of the Attorney General within the Antitrust Enforcement Division in Tallahassee, Florida.

Pay: $86,852.97 Annually

 

 

 

Responsibilities

The Work You Will Do: Attorneys must have knowledge of methods, techniques, and skills necessary for the performance of the job and demonstrate the ability to effectively and efficiently execute all assigned duties and tasks. Quality of work is accurate and thoroughly completed within established time frames and amount of work completed meets or exceeds expectations. Must be able to perform the duties of the position through the competent use of work methodologies, computer applications and software, office equipment, etc. The duties of this position may include but are not limited to:

 

Litigation Preparation

Review and sign documents generated by staff that are to be filed with the court or submitted to counsel, to ensure legal sufficiency or appropriateness before signing.
Prepare complex legal documents.
Reviews and drafts discovery requests and responses.
Review and process legal correspondence
Prepare and review discovery requests
Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda
Review documents using e-discovery platforms
Assists with deposition preparation and conducts same when appropriate
Assists with expert discovery

Case Management

Provides updates and information on case status to Team Members as needed.
Provides assistance researching specific case-related inquiries.
Participates in meetings, workshops and conferences as required.
Ensures that case files are complete.
Timely updates billable hours in time tracking database.

Legal Research

Conducts complex legal research and interprets statutes, regulations, rules and operating procedures, providing legal advice/information to Attorney Supervisor as requested.

Miscellaneous

Assists with staff training as directed.
Performs related work as directed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong legal research skills, e.g. knowing how to effectively use terms and connectors, utilizing all different kinds of legal databases (Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg), and legislative history.
Ability to provide concise analyses.
Strong and effective writing skills.
Strong and effective communication skills.
Strong critical thinking skills.
Courses in law and economics, complex litigation, white collar crime or antitrust or an undergraduate or graduate degree in economics.
Knowledge of antitrust law.
Experience in document examination using document examination platforms, or a strong willingness to learn the platforms.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Excellent time management skills.
Ability and willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge.

 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and membership of the Florida Bar.

Applicants who are law school graduates, but not current members of the Florida Bar and third (3rd) year law students can be considered; however, proof of the Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and approval to sit for the Florida bar exam must be provided prior to the date of employment.

 

Preference will be given to candidates with:

Degree in economics or business
Antitrust, White-Collar Crime, Consumer Protection or Complex Litigation law school course
Experience in Antitrust, White-Collar Crime, Consumer Protection or Complex Litigation, including internships

 

 

Any employment offer would be contingent upon admission to the bar within 12 months of the date of employment.
