The White Collar Crime Unit (WCCU) in the Fraud & Consumer Protection Division seeks a Deputy Attorney General.  The WCCU is based in New Castle County and prosecutes crimes that involve financial misconduct and such other criminal matters assigned by the Division Director. The WCCU also pursues civil actions under the Delaware False Claims and Reporting Act for fraud committed against the government.

Attorneys in the Fraud and Consumer Protection Division enjoy a 37.5-hour work week with true work/life balance including: a hybrid work environment, no billable hours, generous paid time off, affordable benefits plans, free trainings and CLE, 12 weeks paid parental leave, exclusive public service student loan forgiveness programs, pension eligibility, and a supportive collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

This Deputy Attorney General, under the guidance of Unit leadership, will decide what cases should be prosecuted, which should plead out, what specific plea offers should be extended on a case-by-case basis, which cases should be resolved by a trial, and will try the cases that are not otherwise resolved.  While based in New Castle County, the WCCU prosecutes criminal matters statewide and travel throughout the state, including muti-day court proceedings in Kent and Sussex Counties, may be necessary.  Additional duties for the DAG would include the representing the Unit at meetings involving business crime issues (including with federal counterparts), meeting with referral agencies to address issues in the investigation and prosecution of cases within the Unit’s jurisdiction, performing intakes and reviewing cases for prosecution.
While this DAG will work as part of a team with the other members of the WCCU on the full range of WCCU cases, this DAG’s priority caseload will address matters involving insurance fraud and related criminal offenses referred to the WCCU by investigators with the Division of Insurance.  In addition to the criminal caseload, the DAG will address insurance-themed civil matters, including license revocation proceedings conducted in coordination with the Dept of Insurance.

Qualifications

This challenging role offers the opportunity to investigate and litigate a wide range of matters, including large and complex fraud cases. The Deputy Attorney General will work closely with investigative partners throughout the State, requiring the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with other deputy attorneys general, investigators, support staff, and court personnel.
The ideal candidate should be capable of working independently and meeting deadlines while demonstrating solid academic achievement, relevant work experience, and strong writing skills. A comprehensive understanding of all aspects of investigating and litigating complex criminal matters is essential. Preferred qualifications include substantial felony trial experience, significant experience managing document-intensive cases involving financial misconduct, and strong case evaluation abilities. Familiarity with finance, tax, or accounting is helpful but not required.
Membership in the Delaware Bar is required, and a strong commitment to serving the public interest is essential.
