SEEKING ENVIRONMENTAL/LANDS & NATURAL RESOURCES AAG

The LA Department of Justice is seeking an Assistant Attorney General to join Environmental/Lands and Natural Resources Section in assisting the Attorney General in discharging her duties under the Environmental Quality Act and the Louisiana Constitution.  This section of the Civil Division works with, provides legal support to, and protects the interests of state agencies, levee boards, commissions, and political subdivisions that oversee and regulate the natural resources of the State of Louisiana.  Attorneys in this position can expect to work through general and complex issues of law in various areas, including mineral rights, conservation regulation, coastal use regulation, water bottoms, boundaries, accretion and erosion, oil and gas, royalties, public rights of use and access, sale and acquisition of lands, and expenditure and recovery of public funds.

Attorneys in the Civil Division of the LA Department of Justice initiate, prosecute, and intervene in litigation in courts and administrative proceedings throughout all 64 parishes, draft Attorney General opinions, and work on issues most lawyers do not see in their careers.  All sections are involved in litigation with state and federal impacts and importance. The Attorney General’s office offers a dynamic and supportive environment where attorneys of all experience levels, including young lawyers, can develop their legal knowledge and skills.

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and problem solving abilities, proficiency in legal research and drafting, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, and a commitment to public service.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume and references to WilliamsC@ag.louisiana.gov. Please include “AAG – Environmental/Lands and Natural Resources Section” in the subject line of your email.
