Are you interested in joining a dynamic team of consumer protection attorneys dedicated to investigating and prosecuting violations of state laws in order to ensure healthcare access and equality for all Californians? The Healthcare Rights and Access Section is seeking experienced and motivated attorneys to join our consumer protection team.

This position may be filled in Sacramento, Oakland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or San Diego. Telework schedules are available, but employees must live within commuting distance of their office and must be California residents.

The Healthcare Rights and Access Section serves as the lead in affirmative healthcare-related matters involving consumer protection, reproductive justice, healthcare privacy, and competition matters. We represent the People of the State of California and coordinate work with others in the Department of Justice, including the Solicitor General’s Office and other sections in the Public Rights and Civil Law Divisions.

Our consumer protection team investigates and prosecutes civil cases to enforce state laws that prohibit unfair or unlawful business practices, false advertising, and related unlawful activity in the healthcare industry. Consumer cases often involve complex litigation and affect potentially millions of people.

Salary Ranges (Monthly)

  • DAG (0-5 years of legal experience) $7,737.00 – $11,173.00
  • DAG III (5+ years of legal experience) $10,536.00 – $13,526.00
  • DAG IV (6+ years of legal experience) $11,644.00 – $14,954.00

Typical duties include:

  • litigating at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts,
  • conducting in-depth investigations and other research,
  • negotiating and drafting settlement agreements,
  • working with district attorneys throughout California and with attorneys general in other states in joint investigations and actions,
  • working with state and federal agencies in investigations and consumer protection projects,
  • and drafting regulations and consumer education alerts.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in complex litigation and investigations
  • Possess exceptional writing and research skills
  • Be persuasive oral advocates and negotiators
  • Experience in working with and interacting professionally with witnesses, governmental agencies, state partners, experts, investigative targets, courts, and other stakeholders
  • Experience developing case strategy and managing cases
  • A demonstrated interest in consumer protection or in the public interest
  • Experience in consumer protection laws, civil or criminal investigation and prosecution, bankruptcy, or healthcare products and services

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be an active member of the California State Bar.
