The Arizona Attorney General’s Office Civil Litigation Division/Consumer Protection and Advocacy Section/Worker’s Protection Unit is seeking a Unit Chief Counsel to directly supervise the Worker’s Protection Unit attorneys, staff, law clerks and volunteers who are dedicated to protecting Arizona workers from exploitation and enforcing existing laws to promote fair competition in Arizona.

Responsibilities

This position assigns cases and investigations; mentors the staff with investigations; works with attorneys on trial strategy and organization; second chairs trials with newer attorneys; assigns responsibility, along with the Section Chief Counsel, for participation in NAAG working groups and conference calls; tracks the progress and completion of projects assigned by the Unit Chief Counsel, Section Chief Counsel and/or Division Chief Counsel; handles calls from consumers, businesses and the press as appropriate as assigned by the Section Chief Counsel and/or Division Chief Counsel; participates in Attorney General forums; reviews and modifies memos, settlement agreements, pleadings and other documents; participates in worker protection outreach presentations and assigns presentations to others in the Unit; conducts case review with attorneys and paralegals to track the progress of cases.

Qualifications

*Working knowledge of statutes, legal research methods, and general legal principles.
*Knowledge of legal techniques and the basic concepts of American Jurisprudence and of the formats utilized in the preparation of legal documents.
*Knowledge and understanding of applicable consumer fraud, wage and hour, payroll fraud, and other Arizona statutes, including applicable rules of civil procedure in both state and federal courts.
*Knowledge of the practical factors that impact investigative and litigation decisions and goals, including target and defendant responses, opposing counsel strategies and judicial perspectives, and victim/witness considerations.
*Additional knowledge, skills and abilities acquired through lengthy and varied experience in legal practice, especially in complex litigation.
*Knowledge of civil procedures and filing deadlines and the ability to complete matters on a timely basis, producing professional pleadings and keeping abreast of new statutes and case law.
*Effective oral and written communication skills.
*Trial skills, negotiating skills, and investigative skills.
