Mike Kuykendall

Mike Kuykendall is director of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) Center for Excellence in Governance and chief counsel for the 2020 Presidential Initiative on “Transformational Leadership and Civility.”  He has previously served NAAG as a consultant, where he provided mentorship and training to newly hired attorneys; assisted with the development and implementation of the National Center for Ethics and Public Integrity; served as technical advisor for the development, coordination and assessment of the Consumer Protection 101 Training; planned and developed curriculum and faculty for the NAAG Presidential Initiative Training on Officer Involved Shooting Investigations; assessed the development, training and faculty for the Overdose Death Investigation and Prosecution Trainings; and acted as lead faculty for trainings including Ethics and Public Integrity, Trial Advocacy, Paralegal, and E-Discovery for Attorney General offices around the United States.

Mike is the founder and former director of the National Center for Community Prosecution (NCCP) at the American Prosecutors Research Institute in Washington, D.C. While at NCCP, he developed and promoted a strategic plan with the United States Department of Justice to institutionalize community-based prosecution initiatives across the United States which included a $40 million dollar federal grant program for hiring and training state and city prosecutors, hosting twenty-five conferences and symposia around the United States for criminal justice professionals, and authoring numerous publications and training materials to support the field. 

Mike has worked in the public safety arena for 40 years as a probation officer, mental health therapist, state prosecutor and major police department executive. He is a graduate of the Northwestern School of Law (J.D.), Indiana State University (M.S.) and DePauw University (B.A.).
