Ines Carrau Martinez
Inés del C. Carrau Martínez obtained her bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences with a concentration in Zoology from the College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts of Mayagüez. She received a Juris Doctor degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico School of Law. After completing her law degree, he did a Master of Laws from the Center for Advanced Legal Studies of the Pontificia Universidad Católica. In addition, she has 20 credits leading to a Doctorate in Law from the consortium between the Pontificia Universidad Católica and the University of Valladolid, Spain.
During her professional career, Carrau Martínez worked as Assistant Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University. In 1998 she started at the Department of Justice as Inspector General, the same year that she was appointed Assistant Prosecutor. She remained as Inspector General until December 2000. Then, she went on to work at the Carolina Attorney General's Office, where she was until 2009 when she was assigned as Interim District Attorney in Guayama. While in the Guayama prosecutor's office, the Governor appointed her and she was confirmed by the Senate of Puerto Rico as District Attorney. In March 2010, she was assigned to work as a District Attorney in the Carolina Public Prosecutor's Office, where she served until April 2013. She was then transferred to lead the Aibonito Prosecutor's Office, where she remained until January 2017.
In January 2017, she was appointed as Principal Special Assistant to the Secretary of Justice and in October 2019 she held the position of Deputy Chief Prosecutor.
The current Acting Secretary of Justice, Inés del C. Carrau Martinez was appointed by Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced in July 2020.
