NAGTRI's Center for Consumer Protection Launches Consumer-Focused Website

Washington, D.C. --- The National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute’s (NAGTRI) Center for Consumer Protection (CCP) is kicking-off National Consumer Protection Week by launching its new consumer-focused website, which is designed to be a national hub of consumer protection information and resources for consumers from state and territory attorneys general.  NAGTRI is the training and research arm of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG).

National Consumer Protection Week runs through March 9 and is designed to bring awareness to consumer rights while educating consumers on how to avoid scams and protect their personal information. 

The website offers an interactive map of the United States that contains links to consumer protection resources for each attorney general office around the country. Educational materials are also available for a variety of consumer topics to help consumers to stay informed on important issues. Common scams, education, finances and money, healthcare, internet and privacy, and travel, are among the consumer topics covered. 

“The goal of the Center for Consumer Protection is to assist the attorneys general around the country who are a leading consumer protection force. Most have primary responsibility within their states or territories for enforcing consumer protection statutes. Attorneys General and their staff deal with issues that range from healthcare to automobiles to privacy, often working together across the states and territories to protect our citizens from unfair, misleading, and deceptive acts and practices,” said Abigail Stempson, Director of the CCP.  “We hope this website will help to give consumers easy access to their attorney general’s consumer protection division as well as provide them information to educate themselves.” 

“I thank NAGTRI and the Center for Consumer Protection for their tireless support in our efforts to protect and educate consumers. This new website is just one of the many ways NAAG amplifies the voice of each attorney general,” said Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson, who serves as a co-chair on NAAG’s Consumer Protection Committee.

“As Attorneys General, one of our most important responsibilities is protecting people from scams and frauds,” said North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein. “This website gives consumers the information they need to prevent becoming a victim of a scam and educates them as to what to do if they have been. I thank NAAG and the CCP for their work to safeguard consumers,” said North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein, also a co-chair on NAAG’s Consumer Protection Committee.
