Marc Abrams

Marc Abrams is Assistant Attorney in Charge of the Civil Litigation Section of the Oregon Department of Justice, where he is lead attorney for employment litigation. He joined ODOJ in 2002 after a decade in firms in New York, Philadelphia and Portland, and a decade in sole practice and as a pro tem judge handling summary judgment motions. At DOJ, Marc also served in the Special Litigation Unit, where he handled injunctions, election law and politically sensitive cases. A graduate of Wesleyan University and the University of Michigan with an M.A. in Journalism and a J.D, Marc has taught at the University of Oregon, Temple University and the Northwestern Law School of Lewis and Clark College. He is current Chair of the Civil Rights Section of the Oregon Bar and a member of its House of Delegates. Marc has briefed the U.S. Supreme Court twice on the issue of student press freedom.

Marc is active in his community. He served a Chair of the Multnomah Education Service District Board, Vice Chair of the Portland School Board, and Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon. He was a member of the 1996 Electoral College. He has a Sunday political talk show on KXL-FM now in its seventeenth year. He lives in Northwest Portland with his son Lawrence, one very smart cat, and one not so smart one.
