Tania Maestas is the Chief Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Mexico, overseeing the office’s administrative and civil affairs. Before becoming Chief Deputy Attorney General, Tania was the Director of the Open Government Division within the Office of the Attorney General.
Prior to her current position, Tania was appointed by the Governor of the State of New Mexico as General Counsel for the Regulation and Licensing Department. As General Counsel, Ms. Maestas supervised the prosecution and enforcement of financial institutions, securities fraud, professional licenses, and construction matters. She also supervised the Alcohol and Gaming Division’s licensing and prosecution program.
Tania also practiced at a private law firm and as Assistant Attorney General. She has represented a number of state entities, including the Secretary of State’s Office and the State Racing Commission.
Tania Maestas received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver College of Law.
