Michael Hering, deputy chief counsel for the NAAG Tobacco Project, spoke about the Master Settlement Agreement and the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act (PACT Act) during the Federation of Tax Administrators’ Tobacco Tax Section annual meeting. The meeting ran Sept. 26 - 29 in Louisville, Ky.
Karen Cordry, Bankruptcy counsel, spoke on the selected changes made to the Bankruptcy Tax Provisions by the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 at a conference hosted by the New Jersey Society of CPAs. The conference, dealing with Business Valuation, Forensic Investigation and Litigation Services, was held Sept. 23 in Edison, NJ.
Dan Schweitzer, Supreme Court counsel, spoke Sept. 14 at the American Association of Public Welfare Attorneys annual meeting in Charleston, S.C. The two-person panel discussed Private Enforcement of Spending Clauses Statutes: Undoing the Limits on Section 1983 in Preemption Cases?
