National Association of Attorneys General
Derek Sarshad joined the NAAG staff in June 2011, and quickly showed himself as a team player. In addition to being tech-savvy and witty, he is enthusiastic about working with his colleagues.
As the paralegal for the NAAG Consumer Issues Division, consisting of the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Projects, he provides support for conferences and various National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute courses, coordinates conference calls, and drafts and edits the bi-weekly e-newsletter, the Consumer Protection Report. He also assists the NAAG general counsel and congressional liaison with the sign-on process and other Capitol Hill work.
Derek is proud of the work he does. “I do a lot of the logistical and coordination work behind the scenes,” he said. “Although scheduling conference calls for the recent historical foreclosure settlement is a very small role, it is an important one and being a part of that history is exciting.”
Before joining NAAG, Derek interned with the National Hydropower Association (NHA). He was instrumental in creating a lobbying tool utilizing Google Earth to pinpoint useful information (hydropower facilities, dams, etc.) for NHA’s membership.
A graduate of George Washington University, Derek received his B.A. in political science with a public policy focus and a minor in philosophy. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, cycling, snowboarding and reading tech blogs. This Branchburg, N.J. native is a self-proclaimed tech-nerd and enjoys learning about the intersection of technology and public policy. He also played a key role in getting the office pet fish, The General, who unfortunately is no longer with us.
