Ashley Carter currently serves as Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Education and Employment Division, where her practice focus includes litigation of education, construction, employment, and contract claims against State entities and agencies. She also reviews rules for boards of state agencies and mentors less experienced lawyers concerning litigation skills. Prior to joining the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office in 2011, she served as Deputy Attorney General to the Health Related Boards in the Department of Health for the State of Tennessee from 2009–2011. Before entering the public sector, she worked in private practice for 20 years in Louisiana, handling claims covering medical devices and pharmaceutical drugs, construction disputes, maritime law, insurance policies, toxic torts, contracts, and general civil litigation. She practiced in Federal and State courts, and represented clients in Multi-District Litigation. She also taught trial advocacy at Tulane Law School for 10 years and continues to participate in judging Moot Court competitions in Nashville, TN. Ashley received her B.A. in Psychology from Southern Methodist University and her J.D. from Tulane Law School.
