James E. Tierney: StateAG.org

• NAGTRI has enjoyed a long working partnership with James E. Tierney, former attorney general of Maine and current lecturer on law at Harvard Law School. For over 20 years, Professor Tierney has worked at the intersection of academia and public law practice, developing the first national law school course on the role and responsibilities of state attorneys general, and influencing and encouraging scores of law students and attorneys to pursue careers as state assistant attorneys general. His website, StateAG.org explores ethical considerations  for attorneys general, provides an overview of the role of state attorneys general, and hosts his law school syllabus, making it publicly accessible. The website serves as a resource for the attorney general community and law schools. 

Dr. Paul Nolette: Attorney General Data 

• Dr. Paul Nolette, chair of the Political Science Department at Marquette University is one the country’s leading scholars on state attorneys general and currently serves as a NAGTRI research consultant. In this capacity, Dr. Nolette helps NAGTRI compile and publish data and visualizations on the duties of the nation’s attorneys general, as well as conduct research on issues and policies important to their work. Dr. Nolette has published extensively on topics related to law and politics, including on state attorneys general in national policymaking and American federalism. His open research database on attorney general litigation and activity provides data on multistate activities, including lawsuits against the federal government, settlements against corporations and businesses, amicus filings, letters, and administrative comments. The website also provides a scholarship database, providing a compendium of research and articles on state attorneys general.
