In celebration of National Consumer Protection Week, the NAAG Consumer Protection Committee and NAGTRI Center for Consumer Protection will host a dialogue with experts in the field of consumer psychology and consumer advertising. They will discuss how consumers make decisions and how scammers and marketers use psychology to persuade consumers.
Dr. Dahr will focus on consumers’ belief systems, how they make choices, and how advertisers target messaging in light of such systems in order to persuade consumers. Dr. Wood will discuss her research that has examined factors that increase susceptibility in fraud victims, tactics that are commonly employed by scammers, and the psychological effect of these crimes on the victims. She will also make suggestions regarding interventions for scam victims.
