TITLE: Assistant Attorney General (Deputy Director – Administrative Practice Group)
SALARY: $187,450.00
LOCATION: Division of Law Administrative Practice Group Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex 25 Market Street
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of the Division of Law, the Deputy Director, with the support of a substantial management team, will oversee and direct all aspects of the APG Practice Group and its six sections. The Deputy Director will work with the Director and other executive staff on Division-wide administrative decisions and functions. With respect to the assigned practice group, the Deputy Director will oversee counseling and litigation of the many client agencies represented by the group; including the administrative enforcement of New Jersey’s statutes and regulations, administrative practice in the Office of Administrative Law, litigation in both State and federal courts at all stages from pre-trials through appeals; and review of significant transactional matters on behalf of the agencies. The Deputy Director will oversee evaluation of attorneys and supervisors within the group; the interpretation and analysis of related laws, regulations, and other official instrumentalities, and extensive research and writing on complex issues. The Deputy Director will supervise administrative activities necessary for the efficient functioning of the practice group, including the development of policy, guidance and strategic planning for the client agencies initiatives and priority projects.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey is required.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of professional legal experience as an attorney at law of the State of New Jersey in the area of the specialty or, three (3) years of professional legal experience as an attorney for State or Federal administrative agencies, which shall have involved a significant amount of the specialized legal work, or, two (2) years of unique specialized legal experience.
LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to candidates with 8 years of professional legal experience as an attorney including 2 years of supervisory experience.
