The Client Counseling Unit seeks (1) an attorney to provide general advice and counsel to state agencies, boards, and commissions and (2) an attorney to provide labor and employment advice and counsel to state agencies, boards, and commissions.
Responsibilities
The Client Counseling Unit provides legal counsel to the Governor, Executive Council, and all executive branch agencies, boards, and commissions on all aspects of agency operations, regulatory actions, administrative procedures, Right-to-Know, employment, constitutional law, statutory interpretation, public finance, conflicts of interest, ethics, procurement, contract drafting, and negotiations. In addition, unit attorneys represent agencies in administrative hearings and appellate proceedings.
Qualifications
We seek candidates with general experience advising clients on legal matters, assessing litigation risk, and resolving disputes–and especially those knowledgeable in labor and employment issues (i.e., labor relations, discrimination and disability claims, and wage and hour claims) and familiar with administrative proceedings, grievance proceedings, and arbitrations. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and writing skills are a must. Previous government or in-house experience is a plus.
