The NH Department of Justice seeks an experienced attorney to join the Solicitor General’s office as a criminal appeals attorney.  The Department represents the State in all criminal appeals to the New Hampshire Supreme Court, which represents a significant portion of its docket.

Responsibilities

Criminal appeals attorneys frequently brief cases to and appear before the New Hampshire Supreme Court, assist in certain state and federal habeas corpus matters, and periodically argue before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.  The position presents a unique opportunity for an individual interested in appellate advocacy.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have significant state or federal criminal trial experience.  Exceptional research, writing, and oral advocacy skills are essential.  Excellent academic credentials and judicial clerkship experience are strongly desired.  Initiative, focus, organization, and resilience are among the qualities best-suited for the demands of this busy appellate practice.
