The Human Services section is recruiting for one attorney to serve as a full-time Assistant Attorney General. The section provides aid-to-agency advice and representation for all divisions within the Department of Health and the Department of Family and Community Services. The practice areas are among the most diverse at the Department of Law, and it represents a unique opportunity to make a difference in the daily lives of Alaskans.

Responsibilities

The section values attorneys interested in developing a diverse skill set, and it is currently recruiting for a generalist to handle a variety of matters. This will include both agency advice and litigation. Agency advice could include policy matters; compliance with state and federal law; and internal policies and procedures. Litigation could include involuntary mental commitments and involuntary psychotropic medication hearings; representing Adult Protective Services in protective proceedings for vulnerable Alaskans; and administrative litigation before the Office of Administrative Hearings on a wide range of topics.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have excellent communication, oral advocacy, writing, negotiation, and time management skills, and must possess an eye for detail and good judgment. The ability to handle a high volume of cases in a fast-paced work environment is essential.
