The Labor and State Affairs section is recruiting for a lead procurement attorney. The section provides legal advice and representation to state agencies in multiple areas of law, including elections, campaign finance, employment, labor relations, civil rights, separation of powers, boards and commissions, procurement, unemployment benefits, workers’ compensation, and workplace safety. The section’s client agencies include the Departments of Administration, Labor and Workforce Development, and Military and Veterans Affairs; the Offices of the Governor and Lt. Governor; and the Division of Elections, Division of Motor Vehicles, Alaska Public Offices Commission, and the Alaska State Commission for Human Rights.
Attorneys in the Civil Division work on matters of statewide importance, all while living in Alaska and enjoying all it has to offer. Responsibilities
The attorney selected for this position will advise the Office of Procurement and Property Management and departments across the State on contracts for goods and services and will represent the State in protests and appeals. This will involve agency advice, contract review and negotiation, and administrative and other litigation. This attorney will have a high degree of autonomy in a collaborative and growing section and will work with or lead other attorneys handling procurement, depending on experience.
Qualifications
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the state of Alaska now or within 10 months of their appointment to this position. Applicants with two or more years of licensed practice in contract law are preferred. Applicants must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, exercise excellent judgment, build strong client relationships, and manage competing deadlines.
