Case Description
Five trash hauling companies and 16 individuals agreed to pay a fine of $702,500 and refrain from engaging in anticompetitive conduct in the future. Plaintiff state brought suit against the haulers in July 1988. The trash haulers were accused of rigging bids on commercial-industrial refuse removal services in Fairfield County, Connecticut between January 1980 and February 1990. The settlement returned $632,250 to seven cities and towns in which the overcharging for trash hauling services occurred. The remaining $70,250 was paid to the state.
