Case Description
According to the complaint, a 1997 newspaper advertising campaign by MaineHealth sought to lure patients away from Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital, but MaineHealth stopped the
advertising when Northern Cumberland, located in Bridgton, complained. That agreement, according to the complaint, illegally reduces competition and restrains trade. The two hospitals agreed to refrain from allocating territories, customers or advertising markets. MaineHealth also agreed to provide info on existing and future agreements with competitors entered for the purpose of avoiding duplication of services (expired December 31, 2004). Bridgton Hospital entered into a Consent Decree, MaineHealth & MMC a Settlement Agreement.
Injunctive relief, $10,000 civil penalties and costs.
