Case Description
U.S. DOJ and 19 states sued Microsoft, alleging monopolization of the market for Intel-compatible personal computer operating systems and illegal tying of the Window Operating system and Microsoft’s IE browser. After full trial and partial affirmation by D.C. Circuit, U.S. and one group of states reached a settlement which included provisions to make the Windows operating system more open and provided for continued monitoring by the states and the U.S. Another group of states continued to pursue the case (see Massachusetts v. Microsoft)
