The National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute (NAGTRI), the training and research arm of the National Association of Attorneys General, announced its 2020 annual award winners during its Advisory Board and Training Coordinator Meeting on Jan. 27.

“NAGTRI’s mission is supported by its dedicated and talented faculty,” said NAGTRI Directory Amy Tenney Curren. “NAGTRI trainings would not be possible without their volunteer commitment of time and expertise. Congratulations to all of the recipients and thank you for your many contributions.”

The Outstanding NAGTRI Faculty Award recognizes NAGTRI faculty members who have significantly contributed to developing and presenting quality legal training for their counterparts in attorney general offices. The recipient of the 2020 Outstanding NAGTRI Faculty Award is:

  • Stephanie A. Caldwell, Assistant Attorney General, Nebraska Attorney General’s Office

The NAGTRI Extra Mile Award is given to those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, especially in a time of need. This year’s award was presented to:

  • Margaret Cotoia, Director, Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute, New Jersey Attorney General’s Office

Awarded biannually, the NAGTRI Award for Achievement in Research and Written Content recognizes NAGTRI faculty and other professionals who have dedicated their time and expertise to create an exceptional body of research, book chapter, treatise, or other written content that helped NAGTRI serve the attorney general community. This year’s award was presented to:

  • Dan Cort, First Deputy Commissioner, New York City Department of Investigation and New York Attorney General’s Office (Retired)

The NAGTRI Innovation in Teaching Award recognizes NAGTRI faculty who embrace originality and use innovative means, including online tools and virtual instruction, to make teaching come to life. This year’s award was presented to:

  • Jack McManus, Deputy City Counselor, Columbia City Attorney’s Office, Missouri Attorney General’s Office (Ret.)

Multiple NAGTRI faculty members were also recognized for their meritorious service and commitment, including:

  • Jay Simonson, First Assistant Attorney General, Colorado Attorney General’s Office
  • Paula McManus, Assistant Attorney General, Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office
  • Lee McAllister, Section Chief, E-Discovery, New York Attorney General’s Office
  • Jason Beaman, Oklahoma State University Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Chair, Executive Director
  • Clark Kirkland, Assistant Attorney General, South Carolina Attorney General’s Office
  • Ashley Carter, Senior Assistant Attorney General, Tennessee Attorney General’s Office
  • Jeff Hill, Deputy Attorney General, Tennessee Attorney General’s Office
