Consumer protection work is an important aspect in attorney general offices. Attorneys general and their staff help consumers by addressing consumer complaints, providing alerts about scams and issues, offering educational materials, and enforcing state consumer protection laws. The NAGTRI Center for Consumer Protection (CCP) is dedicated to assisting attorney general offices in their consumer protection work, including addressing consumer protection issues and ensuring consumers can expect fairness and integrity from businesses.
The CCP actively supports and facilitates connections between attorneys general in consumer protection matters by:
- Providing consumer protection expertise to Consumer Protection Divisions, Units, Sections, or Bureaus in attorney general offices.
- Facilitating collaboration among the attorney general community related to multistate cases and settlements based on alleged violations of state consumer protection laws.
- Educating attorney general staff through consumer conferences and trainings that address pressing and relevant issues and help develop the skills needed to effectively represent consumers in enforcement actions.
- Informing the public about consumer protection matters.
