In an effort to combat synthetic identity theft, NAAG asked the Social Security Administration (SSA) to prioritize the implementation of a new database system that meets requirements in Section 215 of the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act. Section 215 directs SSA to develop a database to facilitate the verification of a consumer’s information when requested by a certified financial institution, with the consumer’s consent.
