2026 Presidential Initiative: Driving Down Costs for American Families

Each year, the NAAG President identifies an issue for the Association and its members to prioritize. Attorney General Tong announced that his 2026 NAAG Presidential Initiative will be entitled: “Driving Down Costs for American Families.”

For years, American families have been squeezed by high costs from all directions—whether it is unlawful generic drug price-fixing, unfair algorithms driving up housing costs, organized retail crime impacting the cost of everyday goods, unaffordable energy costs, healthcare consolidation, price gouging, and more. The Presidential Initiative will highlight key cases and actions attorneys general are taking across the country to relieve financial pressures on American families. It will examine how attorneys general—irrespective of party or geography—are working together and using their authority to make life more affordable.

“Now more than ever, I am honored by this unanimous and bipartisan support from attorneys general across the country. This year, my Presidential Initiative will address how attorneys general can harness our law enforcement authority to drive down those costs. As we take on some of the biggest corporations and powerful forces, I am honored by this opportunity to lead both Democrats and Republicans in delivering for American families,” said Attorney General Tong.”

About Attorney General William Tong

William Tong is the 25th Attorney General of Connecticut, first elected in 2019 and currently serving his second term. A national leader in consequential lawsuits and investigations, Attorney General Tong has spearheaded bipartisan, multistate efforts to hold the addiction industry accountable for the opioid crisis, restore fair competition in the generic drug industry, and protect consumers from data breaches and unfair practices. He has prioritized efforts to reduce energy costs, expand broadband access, and ensure affordable healthcare.

As the son of immigrant small business owners, Attorney General Tong understands firsthand the challenges families face. He has fought to safeguard civil rights, defend Connecticut’s gun laws, and hold corporations accountable for climate change deception. Before becoming Attorney General, Tong served 12 years in the Connecticut General Assembly and practiced law for nearly two decades. He is the first Asian American elected to any state office in Connecticut history and the first Chinese American elected Attorney General nationwide.
