Washington, D.C. — The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) issued the following statement following the announcement yesterday of President Trump’s new presidential directive requiring the U.S. Secretaries of Education and Veterans Affairs to swiftly discharge debt for totally and permanently disabled veterans:
“The President’s action to ensure that tens of thousands of disabled veterans receive student loan relief comes after nearly every attorney general in the country called on the federal government to better protect those who once protected our nation,” said Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal of New Jersey and Attorney General Sean Reyes of Utah, the co-sponsors of NAAG’s original letter to Secretary Betsy DeVos in May 2019. “This result shows what NAAG can accomplish when attorneys general speak up together for what’s right.”
