Washington, D.C. — The National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute (NAGTRI), the training and research arm of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), is pleased to announce it has named Jeena Cho its Wellness Consultant to further NAGTRI’s wellness initiative.

NAGTRI’s mission is to provide high-quality, non-partisan training to state and territory attorney general staff. While NAGTRI trainings are traditionally provided in-person across the country, increasing online learning opportunities, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, is an organizational priority. In her role with NAGTRI, Cho will hold a daily mindfulness practice online and lead a series of webinars focused on mindfulness and wellness. This initiative will be hosted by the NAGTRI Center for Leadership Development.

The “Daily Pause” is designed to bring attorney general staff together virtually to break the loneliness and stress that can come from social isolation and working remotely. From April 20, 2020 to May 15, 2020, Cho will offer daily live sessions from Monday to Friday at 12:30 p.m. EDT via Zoom. Each session will be recorded and accessible for future viewing through NAAG’s Members-Only COVID-19 Resources Page. The webinar series, which will launch the week of April 20, will address topics including better lawyering through mindfulness; unintended consequences of lawyering, such as burnout, vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue; combating implicit bias; strategies for reducing stress; and working with the imposter syndrome.

“NAGTRI has been increasing its focus on attorney general staff wellness over the past year, including recent training on anger management, mindfulness, and overcoming bias,” said NAGTRI Director Amy Tenney Curren. “We’re thrilled to have Jeena’s expertise in work/life integration and well-being. Her programming will be instrumental in providing wellness tips to our members during unprecedented times.”

“We know from the data that attorneys struggle with overwhelming stress and anxiety. Part of that stems from not having the tools to manage the human suffering we often come into contact with and witness. To add to that, we’re also under-resourced while balancing many different tasks and roles,” said Cho. “I’ve personally seen the benefit of mindfulness and meditation and am excited to be able to share with the NAGTRI community.”

Cho is an attorney with JC Law Group PC, a bankruptcy law firm in San Francisco, and is co-author of the best-selling book, The Anxious Lawyer, An 8-Week Guide to a Joyful and Satisfying Law Practice Through Mindfulness and Meditation (ABA). She previously served as assistant state attorney at the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office and is a monthly contributor for the ABA Journal.
