Responsible AI for Public Sector Legal Professionals
The National Association of Attorneys General is pleased to share a new training opportunity designed to support attorneys general offices, legal professionals, and public sector teams in responsibly integrating artificial intelligence into their daily work.
This training series aligns with guidance from the American Bar Association and provides practical instruction on using AI tools while managing confidentiality, ethics rules, and public sector constraints. Demonstrations are vendor-neutral and non-commercial, offering actionable insights for safely and effectively using any AI platform in legal work.
Course Overview
Course 1: Using Generative AI: Everyday Tools and Best Practices
- Understand the fundamentals of generative AI and machine learning
- Learn how these technologies differ and where they apply in legal contexts
- Explore risk mitigation strategies and ethical considerations
- Review common use cases for GenAI in public sector legal work
- Format: 20 short videos totaling 1 hour and 45 minutes
Course 2: Designing AI: Policy, Projects, and Societal Impact
- Develop and implement AI acceptable use policies
- Apply best practices for data governance and segregation
- Identify legal challenges AI tools can help solve
- Examine the broader societal and ethical implications of GenAI
- Format: 15 short videos totaling 1 hour

Responsible AI for Public Sector Legal Professionals is a free, self-paced course series developed by InnovateUS, a philanthropically funded organization committed to strengthening government capacity through digital, data, and AI education. InnovateUS delivers no-cost learning to dozens of states and cities, offering both asynchronous and live instruction. The curriculum was shaped by input from more than 100 experts across government, academia, and industry.
